Bibliography/References:
A minimum of four (4) references are needed – no more than two (2) of which may be Internet
references. The essay must be in your OWN WORDS. Bibliography/reference information should be on a separate sheet
of paper. Included in the bibliography shall be the name of the author; title of the book, newspaper, article, city of
publication; publisher, and date of publication.
Word Count:
* 4th Grade Essay – The body of the essay should be between 500 and 525 words.
* 7th Grade Essay - The body of the essay should be between 800 and 825 words
* Dates, example March 6, 1836 and names, example Sam Houston, Stephen F. Austin shall be counted as one word.
* Items not counted in word count are: title, cover sheet info. and bibliography/reference
THE ESSAY MAY BE HANDWRITTEN OR TYPED, DOUBLE SPACED ON 8 ½ BY 11-INCH PAPER
COMPUTER FONT SIZE SHALL NOT BE LARGER THAN 12 point
All essays must be submitted in English.

Awards: Awards Ceremony will be held April 8, 2008, 12:30 pm, at the Alamo Hall. City winners will receive cash prizes:
1st Place - $50,
2nd Place - $40,
3rd Place - $30.
